I know summer has come and gone, but I cannot help longing for summer nights and warm weather. My favorite things about summer are going camping, wakeboarding, and enjoying anything outdoors. Some of my favorite places to go camping are Lake Don Pedro, Lake Tahoe, and East Park Reservoir. All three locations are three hours or less from my hometown, so it is convenient to get to them.
This past summer I went up to Lake Tahoe for Fourth of July with family and friends from my home church. We spent a few days on the north shore of Lake Tahoe near a city named Truckee. The lake is beautiful during this time of year, and the water temperature is just right! Truckee is also the city in where the infamous Donner Party ended up on their ill-fated journey to California. Donner Memorial State Park ,where you can camp, and also has a little museum to learn more about the Donner Family.
Lake Don Pedro and East Park are my two favorite places to camp at back home. Although both are campgrounds each place has something different to offer. Lake Don Pedro is absolutely beautiful lake. The water is clear and pretty, and the scenery around is absolutely gorgeous.I would recommend who like camping, but also like to be able to shower as well. There is a little market on the campground if you need little necessities. East Park is also a great place to go as well. If you love really roughing it, then this is the place to go. No running water, no showers, and just porta-potties. Im last only about two days here before I am ready to head back home, but it is fun to be completely disconnected from everything and just enjoy being in God’s creation. Both places are great places to wakeboard, innertube, and roast marshmallows by the fire at night.
Just writing about camping makes me want to go camping soon! I hope you all enjoy! Xoxo, Lauren
Football season is well underway, and I am a huge football fan. I was lucky enough to grow up in the Bay Area, home to two NFL teams: the Oakland Raiders and the San Fransico 49ers. California is also home to the San Digeo Chargers. Going to football games growing up was something I loved doing with my family. I am huge 49er fan, so I would encourage everyone to go to a 49er game if ever in California. This is the fairwell season at Candlestick Park, so the team will moving to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. It is about 40 miles from the current stadium. I am looking forward to watching my last 49er game at Candlestick over Christmas break. If you go over the Bay Bridge and head over to Oakland, you can also check out a Raider game while in the Bay Area. While there is a huge riviarly between the two teams, I have been to a few Raider games growing up. No matter where you choose to watch a game, you are guaranteed to have a good time! Enjoy! XOXO, Lauren
San Francisco is one of my favorite places to visit at home. Its about an hour drive from my hometown or you can hop on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), similar to the Subway, and avoid the traffic to get there. The city is so full of life and so many different types of people, you will be sure to have a one of a kind of experience. The City has so much to offer and do you that you can spend a few days just exploring.
The first place you have to visit is Pier 39 , which is a complete tourist spot, but there is shopping, dinning, and attractions for all ages. You can see amazing views of the bay from Pier 39 and you are also located close to Fisherman’s Wharf, which is another place you should visit to enjoy some amazing food! You can also get a up close view of the sea lions who are a good source for entertainment. For those who love the arts San Francisco is a great location to check out the museums and other arts and culture events. Another fun place to visit is Alcatraz . Most people know it as a a federal prison with a bunch of urban ledgends to go along with it.
As mentioned in previous posts, you have to check out a baseball game at AT&T park to watch the Giants play or check out a 49er game as well! Another cool spot to see is the different districts of the city. Haight- Ashbury is a really cool place to visit to see the original hippie culture, this will definitely be an unique experience. Finally, you have to stop and walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco is an amazing place, so full of life and culture. There is just numerous amount of things to do while visiting the city, you won’t be disapointed. Enjoy! Xoxo, Lauren
In the spirit of Halloween I thought it would be approriate to write about fun things to do around this time of the year back home. I love Halloween, and I am always up for a good scare every now and then.
When I was growing up, my parents made a family tradition of going to Dell’Osso Family Farm. There is a huge corn maze that you can get lost in for hours ( I know this because I got lost for three hours in it). There is also tons of other things for all ages: pony rides, face painting, hay ride, and petting zoo to just name a few.
Another place to visit is the Winchester Mystery house. I have never been there, but my sister and many of my friends have been. There is a story behind the house and why Sarah Winchester built this 160-room house. This has always been a place I have wanted to go but just have not had the time to go.
I am sure some of you have heard of Six Flags. Every year it does Fright Fest, where it decorates the park with creepy decorations, as well as haunted houses and fright walks throughout the park.
These are just a few more haunted houses and attractions to checkout! Enjoy! Xoxo, Lauren
The first spot anyone who comes to California needs to stop at is In-N-Out Burger. While there are now locations in Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Texas, this delicious fast-food restaurant originally opened in 1948, in Baldwin Park, Calif. The menu is simple and you can never go wrong with ordering a No.3 and a vanilla milkshake.
The next place you should try is Las Tres Marias. It is a family-owned Mexican restaurant that my family goes to quite a bit after church on Sundays. It has the best Mexican food I have ever had, and nothing can compare to it.
The last place you should try is Lumpy’s Diner! Some of the best breakfast food you will ever eat. The hamburgers are loaded with topping after topping and are probably a heart attack waiting to happen, but they are too good to resist! I love that this is another locally owned restaurant so you know you are going to be taken care and eat really delicious food!
Writing this post just makes me crave all this food and miss home a little more. Be sure to check out these spots in you are ever in California. Hope you enjoy! XoXo, Lauren
Do you ever have those days where you want to get away? I know I sure do! Well, for my friends and I back, we would escape for the day by heading to the beach in Santa Cruz, Calif. This beach is about 90 minutes or so from my hometown; close enough to get there in a decent amount of time, but far enough away to call it a daycation. Santa Cruz holds many memories with my friends from home, which includes spending my senior ditch day with my best friends. Besides just laying around on the beach, you can walk around Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, go shopping, try paddle boarding, maybe learn to surf, or grab a bite to eat at Pizaa My Heart.
The boardwalk has many rides and attractions for all ages. If you are not one for rides and a thrill seeker, there is mini-golf, laser tag, maybe even go on the Fright Walk. The boardwalk also hosts events throughout the year, although I would not recommend going into the water after summer ends! BUUUUUURRRRR!!!
Santa Cruz is always a must every summer to get away and relax for the day! Hope you have fun at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! Enjoy!
